The study of the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome through their languages has been at the core of humanistic learning for centuries, and constitutes the heart of both the Jesuit tradition and the liberal arts curriculum.
The Department of Classics at Georgetown is committed to the teaching of the Greek and Latin languages at every level, Greek and Latin literature in translation, ancient history, and Classical archaeology. We welcome a multiplicity of perspectives on the ancient world and are committed to building a diverse intellectual community.
