Post-Baccalaureate Program

The post-baccalaureate program in Classics at Georgetown University is designed to provide college graduates with the opportunity to improve their knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin. Students who wish to participate are expected to have begun the study of at least one of the ancient languages before their arrival.

Students who have completed the post-bac program at Georgetown have been accepted into graduate programs in Classics at institutions such as Brown, the University of Chicago, Florida State University, the University of Georgia, Princeton, Stanford, Texas, Tulane, the University of Virginia and Washington University.

Curriculum

The Department of Classics offers courses in both ancient languages at all levels, and can accommodate the needs of students with varied backgrounds and preparation in Classics. Latin and Greek are taught at all levels throughout the year. click on "Courses" above for detailed information.

Students will normally take one course in each language, though the program is designed to be flexible and to accommodate the needs and interests of the individual student. Students who have had previous training in both languages often enroll for one year, but, depending upon interests, those who have not had both langauges prior to enrolling often stay in the program for two years.
